Abstract

Adolescents who exhibit tendencies towards phubbing behavior become highly dependent on smartphones, spending extended periods to achieve satisfaction. Phubbing is the act of ignoring people around in favor of focusing on a smartphone. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Group Counseling services using self-management techniques in reducing phubbing tendencies among eighth-grade students at MTS Darul Hufaz Jatinangor. The study involved 20 eighth-grade students, divided into 10 students in the experimental group and 10 students in the control group. The method used is mixed methods with The Exploratory Sequential Design by Creswell. Data were collected through a phubbing tendency questionnaire based on Karadag's theory, interviews, and observations. The results of the Paired Sample T-Test showed the experimental group's average Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the Pre-test and Post-test results of the experimental group. Meanwhile, the control group's Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.794 > 0.05, indicating no significant difference between the Pre-test and Post-test results of the control group. Based on interviews and observations, the implementation of group counseling services using self-management techniques went well, although there were challenges such as students being shy to express opinions and confusion in initiating conversations.
