Abstract

This studi aims to determine the effect of group counseling with assertive training techniques on improving self awareness among students at SMA Negeri 1 Payung Bangka Belitung. The background of this research is the discovery of students who show low self awareness in social life, such as difficulty controlling emotions, often blaming others, lack of empathy, and ahifting responsibilities. This study uses a quantitative approach with a one group pre-test post-test experimental design methode. The research subjects consisted of 8 students from claa XI.2 who were selected using puposive sampling. The instrument used was a self awareness questionnaire consisting of 35 items. The research results show an increase in student’ self awareness scores after participating in group counseling with assertive training technique. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test statistical analysis showed an Asymp Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.011 (<0.05), which means there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. Thus, it can be concluded that group counseling with assertive training techniques is effective in improving the self awareness of students at SMA Negeri 1 Payung Bangka Belitung.
