E EFEKTIVITAS LAYANAN INFORMASI KARIER DALAM MENINGKATKAN PEMAHAMAN KESESUAIAN TIPE KEPRIBADIAN DENGAN PEMILILHAN JURUSAN PERGURUAN TINGGI PADA SISWA SMA NEGERI 11 MUARO JAMBI

Abstract

This research is motivated by students' low understanding of their personality, which results in inaccurate choices of college majors. Observations show that many students are unable to identify their interests, talents, and abilities, so decisions about further study are often influenced by external factors. Theoretically, John L. Holland's RIASEC theory emphasizes the importance of matching personality types with educational environments. This study aims to determine students' level of understanding before and after receiving career information services and to test the effectiveness of these services among eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 11 Muaro Jambi. The research used a quasi-experimental method with a Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 60 students with low initial understanding, comprising 30 students in the experimental group and 30 students in the control group. The instrument was an understanding test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions with four answer options (A–D). Data were analyzed using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The initial mean score was 7.86. After treatment, the experimental group's mean score increased to 12.70, categorized as Paham, while the control group's mean score was 9.07, categorized as Tidak Cukup Paham. The paired sample t-test showed a significant increase in the experimental group (p < 0.05). The independent sample t-test compared posttest scores directly between the experimental and control groups. The values of t, df, and effect size should be reported based on the final SPSS output. Thus, career information services were effective in increasing students' understanding of the suitability between personality types and the choice of college majors.
