PERAN MEDIA SOSIAL DALAM PEMBENTUKAN LABELLING DIRI REMAJA GEN Z DAN PENGARUHNYA TERHADAP KESEJAHTERAAN PSIKOLOGIS

Abstract

Labeling is a social process of assigning a label to an individual based on behavior deemed deviant, which impacts how the individual is perceived and treated. In the digital era, labeling has developed through social media, which has become the primary space for Generation Z to form their identity. Digital interactions such as comments, likes, and algorithms reinforce the formation of labels and encourage the emergence of self-labeling. This study aims to examine the concept of labeling, its forming factors, the role of social media, and the influence of self-labeling on psychological well-being. The method used is a literature review from various scientific sources. The results show that self-labeling has positive impacts in the form of increased motivation, identity formation, and a sense of belonging. However, negative impacts also arise, such as low self-esteem, stress, depression, deviant behavior, social isolation, and psychological distress. Therefore, individual skills are needed to manage self-labeling adaptively to maintain psychological well-being amidst the dynamics of digital society.
