Abstract

This study aims to examine the correlation between generational trauma and empathic attitudes among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Medan. This research used a quantitative correlational design with a sample of 93 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analyzed using Product Moment correlation with SPSS. This research was conducted using a quantitative method with a correlational type, employing a Likert scale questionnaire instrument. The results showed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.669; p < 0.05) with a strong relationship level. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.448) indicates that generational trauma contributes 44.8% to empathic attitudes. These findings suggest that emotional experiences inherited across generations can shape students' sensitivity and social responses.
