HUBUNGAN ANTARA KECERDASAN EMOSIONAL DENGAN KEMAMPUAN BERADAPTASI SISWA SMP NEGERI 10 PALOPO

This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and students' adaptability at SMP Negeri 10 Palopo. The background of this research is based on the importance of emotional intelligence in supporting students' adaptation to academic, social, and emotional environments. Emotional intelligence includes the ability to recognize and manage one’s own emotions as well as to understand others’ emotions, which is believed to contribute to students’ adaptive skills. This study employs a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The sample consists of 36 seventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments include questionnaires on emotional intelligence and adaptability, both of which have been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and simple linear regression with the help of SPSS software. The results show a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and students' adaptability, with a correlation coefficient of 0.415 and a significance value of 0.012 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the higher the students’ emotional intelligence, the better their adaptability in the school environment. Therefore, the development of emotional intelligence should be a key focus in efforts to enhance students' adaptability.
