Policy of Screening for Plagiarism
Jurnal Profesi Pendidikan (JPP) does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. All submitted manuscripts are checked for similarity using Turnitin by a member of the editorial team before they are sent to reviewers.
Definition
Plagiarism is the use of another person’s ideas, words, data, figures, or other work as one’s own without proper acknowledgment. It includes:
- Verbatim copying: reproducing text from another source, in whole or in part, without quotation and citation.
- Substantial copying: reproducing a significant part of another work, in terms of quantity or importance, without acknowledgment.
- Improper paraphrasing: rewording another author’s ideas or text without citing the original source.
- Self-plagiarism: reusing substantial parts of the authors’ own previously published work without citation, including redundant or duplicate publication.
Similarity Threshold and Actions
The similarity index is calculated excluding references and properly quoted material.
- Up to 20%: the manuscript proceeds to the next editorial stage.
- Above 20% to 30%: the manuscript is returned to the authors for revision before it can be considered further.
- Above 30%, or clear evidence of copying without citation: the manuscript is rejected without review.
The editor may also reject a manuscript with a lower overall similarity index if substantial copying from a single source is found.
Plagiarism Detected After Publication
If plagiarism is identified after publication, the journal will investigate in accordance with its Publication Ethics and may retract the article following its Correction and Retraction Policy.
Upon request, authors may receive a copy of the Turnitin similarity report for their manuscript.
