Abstract

Numeracy literacy is a crucial competency in mathematics education, requiring the ability to understand, utilize, and apply mathematical concepts across various real-life contexts. Teachers often face challenges in developing instructional modules that foster meaningful learning, reasoning, and problem-solving. This community service initiative aims to enhance mathematics teachers' competence in developing "deep learning"-based modules to strengthen students' numeracy literacy. The deep learning approach emphasizes learning that is mindful, meaningful, and joyful. The implementation process involved needs assessment, training, workshops, module development practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The results demonstrate improved teacher understanding and skills in integrating numeracy contexts, exploratory activities, reasoning, problem-solving, and authentic assessment into instructional modules. The initiative highlights the effectiveness of deep learning-based training and mentoring in building teacher capacity and strengthening numeracy literacy through contextual and meaningful mathematics instruction.
