Abstract

Mathematical communication are one of the important skills for students to have, but in reality students have low mathematical communication. Learning model is needed to improve students' mathematical communication. This study aims to examine the effect of two learning models, MTLC and DL on improving mathematical communication, based on the level of students' SE. This research uses two group pretest-posttest design or quasi-experimental design. Purposive sampling used in this research, a sample of 34 students was taken from the experimental class and 32 students from the control class from one of high school in Bandung, West Java. The data collection technique uses a questionnaire and test instrument with five questions. The results of the study showed that there was no significant interaction effect and that the learning model and students' SE could have different effects on improving students' KKM; MTLC and DL having different effects on improving students' KKM; and there were differences in the improvement of students' KKM significantly influenced by the level of SE.
