Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Liveworksheets in improving students' mathematical communication skills. The research method used is a mixed method with a Convergent Parallel design, where quantitative and qualitative data are collected simultaneously to obtain a more comprehensive understanding. Quantitative data are obtained through pretest-posttest results, while qualitative data are obtained through student response questionnaires. The research subjects consisted of two classes of VIII SMP Negeri 3 Cikalongwetan totaling 50 students, namely the experimental class and the control class. Data analysis was carried out using normality tests, homogeneity, and t-tests, and supported by qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that students in the class with the implementation of PBL assisted by Liveworksheets obtained higher posttest scores than the conventional class. In addition, student responses explained high motivation, activeness, and positive attitudes towards the learning process. Thus, the application of the PBL model assisted by Liveworksheets is effective in improving students' mathematical communication skills and can be an alternative innovative learning in mathematics teaching.
