Research Misconduct

Allegations of Research Misconduct

JPMI (Jurnal Pembelajaran Matematika Inovatif) takes all allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously. Allegations are handled fairly, confidentially, and objectively, in accordance with the principles of publication ethics and the relevant guidance provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including its COPE Flowcharts.

What Constitutes Research Misconduct?

Research and publication misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

  • Data fabrication and falsification, including the fabrication, manipulation, or inappropriate alteration of research data, results, figures, or images.

  • Plagiarism and redundant publication, including the use of others' work without appropriate acknowledgment and duplicate or overlapping publication without proper disclosure.

  • Reference and citation misconduct, including fabricated or non-existent references and inappropriate citation manipulation.

  • Authorship misconduct, including gift, guest, or ghost authorship, as well as the failure to disclose relevant competing interests.

  • Research ethics violations, including research involving human participants, particularly children or other vulnerable groups, without the required ethical approval or informed consent, where applicable.

  • Peer-review misconduct, including manipulation of the peer-review process, false reviewer identities, and breaches of reviewer confidentiality.

  • Inappropriate or undisclosed use of generative AI, including the use of AI tools in ways that violate the journal's applicable policies or misrepresent the originality, authorship, or reliability of the submitted work.

How to Report a Concern

Anyone who suspects research or publication misconduct may submit a report to the Editor-in-Chief at jpmi@journal.ikipsiliwangi.ac.id, including anonymously. Reports should be sent to the journal's official editorial email address and should include the article title or manuscript submission ID, a description of the concern, and any available supporting evidence.

Anonymous reports will be considered when sufficient information is provided to permit an initial assessment. All reports will be handled confidentially to the extent possible, while ensuring a fair assessment of the concerns raised.

Investigation Procedure

  1. Acknowledgment and initial assessment. The Editor-in-Chief acknowledges receipt of the report within seven working days and conducts an initial assessment to determine whether the allegation warrants further investigation.

  2. Request for an explanation. If the allegation provides reasonable grounds for concern, the editor contacts the author(s) in writing, outlining the concerns and requesting an explanation and relevant supporting evidence. The author(s) are normally given 14 calendar days to respond, unless an extension is justified.

  3. Evaluation and further investigation. The editor evaluates the response and may consult independent experts or request additional information. Where necessary, and particularly when the matter falls within the authority of the authors' institution, the case may be referred to the relevant institution or research organization for further investigation.

  4. Decision and communication. The editor communicates the outcome and any editorial action to the relevant parties, subject to confidentiality requirements and applicable ethical considerations.

Possible Outcomes

Depending on the nature, severity, and findings of the investigation, JPMI may take one or more of the following actions.

Before Publication

  • Reject the manuscript if the findings establish that it does not meet the journal's standards of research integrity or publication ethics.

  • Request corrections, clarification, or additional evidence when the issue can appropriately be resolved before publication.

  • In cases of serious and substantiated misconduct, consider restricting submissions from the responsible author(s) for up to two years, following a documented assessment and a fair opportunity for the author(s) to respond.

After Publication

  • Publish a correction or retraction, or issue an expression of concern, as appropriate to the findings and in accordance with the journal's Correction and Retraction Policy.

  • Notify the authors' institution or relevant research organization when warranted by the seriousness of the case and the available evidence.

  • Take additional measures consistent with publication ethics guidance and the journal's editorial policies.

All decisions are made based on the available evidence, the seriousness of the alleged misconduct, and the principles of fairness, transparency, and research integrity. Retractions, corrections, and expressions of concern are handled in accordance with the journal's applicable policies and relevant COPE guidance.
