Generative AI Policy
JPMI (Jurnal Pembelajaran Matematika Inovatif) recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools can support scholarly writing and research when used responsibly. This policy establishes the principles governing the use of generative AI by authors, peer reviewers, and editors to safeguard academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and publication ethics.
This policy is informed by the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
1. Policy for Authors
-
AI Authorship Prohibition: Generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and similar applications, must not be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript. Authorship requires human accountability for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work.
-
Permitted Language Assistance: Authors may use generative AI tools for language editing, grammar correction, spelling, and improving readability. Authors remain responsible for reviewing and verifying all suggested revisions.
-
Disclosure of AI Use: Authors must disclose the use of generative AI when it contributes to substantive content generation, research design, data collection, data analysis, data interpretation, image generation, or other research-related activities. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and explain its purpose and scope. Relevant details should be included in the appropriate section of the manuscript, such as the Methods or Acknowledgments section, as applicable.
-
Accuracy and Integrity: Authors bear full responsibility for all content submitted to JPMI, including AI-assisted or AI-generated material. They must verify factual claims, data interpretations, quotations, citations, and references to prevent fabricated references, inaccurate information, plagiarism, and other forms of research or publication misconduct.
-
Editorial Assessment: Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI may lead to requests for clarification, manuscript revision, rejection, or other editorial action in accordance with JPMI's publication ethics policies.
2. Policy for Peer Reviewers
-
Confidentiality of Manuscripts: Peer reviewers must not upload or disclose submitted manuscripts, figures, tables, supplementary files, or other confidential review materials to public generative AI platforms or other AI systems where confidentiality cannot be assured, unless the authors have explicitly permitted such use and the journal's policies allow it.
-
Independent Evaluation: Peer reviewers must conduct their scholarly assessment independently. They must not delegate the evaluation of a manuscript or the formulation of substantive review judgments and recommendations to generative AI tools.
-
Accountability for Review Reports: Reviewers are fully responsible for the accuracy, fairness, originality, and confidentiality of their review reports. Any permitted AI-assisted use must not compromise confidential information or replace the reviewer's independent academic judgment.
-
Disclosure of AI Assistance: Any permitted use of AI to assist with preparing or editing a review report must be disclosed to the handling editor. Reviewers must comply with the journal's instructions regarding the use of AI in peer review.
3. Policy for Editors
-
Confidentiality and Data Protection: Editors must protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and associated editorial correspondence. They must not upload confidential manuscript materials to public generative AI platforms or AI systems where confidentiality cannot be assured, unless the authors have explicitly permitted such use and the journal's policies allow it.
-
Independent Editorial Decisions: Editorial decisions must be based on the manuscript's academic merit, relevance, methodological rigor, peer-review reports, and compliance with publication ethics. Generative AI must not replace the editor's independent judgment or decision-making responsibility.
-
Responsible Use of AI: Editors must ensure that any permitted use of AI in editorial workflows does not compromise confidentiality, research integrity, or the fairness of the peer-review process.
-
Handling Ethical Concerns: Editors may request clarification or additional information when they have reasonable concerns about the use of AI in a manuscript. Where inappropriate or unethical use is substantiated, the editor may take appropriate action in accordance with JPMI's publication ethics, research misconduct, and correction and retraction policies.
4. General Principles
All authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to uphold transparency, accountability, confidentiality, and academic integrity when using generative AI. AI tools may assist scholarly work, but they cannot replace human responsibility for research quality, critical evaluation, and ethical publication practices.
JPMI may review and update this policy as developments in AI technology and scholarly publishing standards evolve.
