This study is a Research and Development (R&D) project aimed at producing a case-based teaching module rooted in the cultural context of the Buton traditional house to enhance students’ mathematical literacy and learning independence in junior high school. The urgency of this research stems from the low level of mathematical literacy and learning independence among Indonesian students. Innovation through culturally contextualized learning is therefore essential to help students understand mathematical concepts more meaningfully and develop self-directed learning skills. The development model used was ADDIE, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation, applied through a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design involving 60 eighth-grade students. The results showed that the Buton traditional house–based teaching module met the criteria of being valid, highly practical with a practicality score of 93%, and effectively improving both mathematical literacy and learning independence. The learning mastery reached 84% for mathematical literacy and 90% for learning independence, both exceeding the minimum standard. Thus, this culture-based teaching module is feasible as an innovative learning medium that connects mathematical concepts with local wisdom.
