Abstract

The gap between 21st-century competency demands and mathematics instruction underscores the urgency of STEAM-based learning. This research aims to investigate high school teachers' perceptions in Bandung City toward the implementation of STEAM-based education in response to 21st-century educational challenges and the Society 5.0 era. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, utilizing an online questionnaire administered to a purposively selected sample of 18 teachers, chosen because they were actively implementing STEAM in the classroom. Findings indicate that teachers possess a solid conceptual understanding and recognize STEAM's relevance in enhancing student motivation and holistic comprehension. However, significant barriers were identified, including limited technological infrastructure, teachers' pedagogical readiness, and constrained cross-disciplinary collaboration. The study also highlights the urgent need for ongoing professional training and policy support to align STEAM with the national curriculum, ensuring its sustainability and effectiveness. These results offer preliminary empirical insights for the development of comprehensive STEAM implementation strategies at the high school level, while underscoring the importance of synergy among teachers, schools, and government to foster a conducive and innovative learning environment.
